January 2011, yes it’s a new year… and a popular time for renewing your health!
You may have gained a few pounds from skipping your exercise and eating too many cookies from your “cookie exchange parties” during the holidays and now you are feeling the results. A good rule of thumb is to not worry so much about what you eat between Christmas and New Years, instead worry about what you eat between New Years and Christmas!
Healthy Eating is a year-round project and the couple of weeks between Christmas and New Years filled with celebrations, fun, family, friends and delicious FOOD(although high in calories, will not make or break your wegith goals)! However, NOW is the time to jump back on the ban wagon and get to work…(on your HEALTH!).
I am not talking about fad diets and expensive diet foods. Move forward, and get back into the gym or get involved in a new, interesting fitness class you’ve always wanted to try. Make it a goal to stay focused on your nutrition goals and exercise regimen….even when June 2011 rolls around! Don’t be a “January gym attendee only!” It is not about how many days you can keep your New Year’s resolutions. Instead, it is about making lifestyle changes and behavior modifications that you can keep forever!
Learn how to enjoy food without guilt. No one is perfect; so don’t throw your health dreams in the trash when you have one small slip up (yes, that “slip up” might have been the cheeseburger you ate last night with large French fries). But it’s okay, next time make your own lettuce wrapped lean hamburger and pair it with sweet potato fries or a side salad instead! I promise that healthy food is delicious and doesn’t taste like “cardboard!”
